Best dirt mod, for me

Rox risers! I never liked riding standing up, it just wasn't comfortable. I've had several people say they have never seen anyone ride so fast off road sitting down. I thought it was just me, as I usually get the tallest handle bars available to fit my tall body (6'6"). But I read recently that the foot peg to bar height should be approximately 1/2 your height?! So I measured my KTM 250 XCW and Honda XR650R and found I was not even close.

So I started looking at options, getting a sub-mount for my steering damper, but that would only raise the bars about an inch. Then I saw Rox risers, which are a really cool idea, as they allow infinite for/aft adjustment as well as raising the bars. I got a set of 3 1/2" risers for the KTM to see if they would work.

Well after re-routing the cables and hoses, I was able to get them to work with out any new parts. They looked a little strange and felt even stranger sitting on the bike, like I had ape hangers! They felt weird the first time riding too, until I stood up. What a revelation! I was finally comfortable while standing. It took a little while to get used to, but I was sold.

The next time I rode my XR650R dual sport off road and went to stand up it was horrible! What happened? I got spoiled and knew I had to get another set. They do look strange, but I can't believe how much easier it is to ride. So if you're a tall dirt rider, take a look at the Rox risers, my new favorite mod!

Good to know, thanks Pete. It's nice that these would work on practically anything that came with a bar.

I am 6ft 2 and I use 4 inch risers on most of my dirt bikes. I use a 5 in riser on my trials bike. It makes a world of difference.

In addition to the handle bar risers, I try to use the widest foot pegs I can find on the market.

Dude, for real. The difference for dudes like us (I'm 6'4") is night and day.

I threw Rox risers on my KTM a month ago. Tremendous difference. Standing doesn't hurt anymore. Now I need to get bigger pegs so standing is easier with size 14 feet. Glad you're expanding your horizons.

I put bar risers on three of my bikes (can not remember the brand) and they do make them nicer to ride.

haha I use 2" risers and run CR high bend bars on all my bikes.. so basically 4.5-5" up.

MAJOR DIFFERENCE.. (everyone used to make fun of me for sitting too)

Hmm, I'm shorter standing than sitting....might be an Asian thing.
When suspension travel increased beyond 3" the struggle got real.
And kick starting?? Ha! Always stop on a hill so I can bump start and be on my way.

Another option: lower your pegs.
