Beijing International Motocross!

Well, not exactly. In Beijing, it seems that everything is decorated with the tinsel of "International." There are international hotels, of course, international kindergartens, international restaurants, international campuses, international taxis and even international toilets. (Yes.)

Sunday, though, truly was an international summit of motorcycle riders. About ten, in all, representing nearly as many countries. We came together, rented a private motocross track just outside of Beijing proper and about dozen WR250's and WR450's. All in, each of us paid about $100. What a fantastic deal, lunch included!

Thanks to the Beijing... (wait for it)... International Motocross Club for facilitating our need to ride! For our $100 each, we got all day on the motocross track, a motorcycle to ride, gasoline, all the gear, lunch and even beer. All we had to do was show up. Fucking great!

France, Belgium, Portugal, Australia, China, Taiwan, America... (I was the only American, but I'm used to that... Americans just don't travel).

Of course, long term residents get used to such diversity. We are all long term residents of Beijing. Tourists don't come here to ride motorcycles. They come here to see Beijing. We ride motorcycles to forget Beijing.

The track:

The bikes!

Gearing up!

A few action shots of the day:

And of course, our group photo:

I have some video coming later... I chased my Australian buddy David around the track, and then we swapped helmets and he tried to keep up with me.

Days later and I'm still aching all over, but I can't wait to get out and ride motocross again soon!

Very nice! My dirt skills allow me to to crash along dirt trails while foolishly trying to keep the riders who know what they're doing in sight. All of the pain, none of the gain.

Did not expect to see a Ford Raptor in pics from China.

I believe this was the first time I'd seen a Ford pickup in China... very rare sight indeed. Also, I'm guessing, probably at least twice as expensive as it would be in the States...

Ahh, sorry. I am a gradeschool teacher full time. And, I do some freelance writing here and there, and I'm raising a family, and I also occasionally give paid speeches at various events, and sometimes help my friend with his Great Wall camping tours during the summer...

Above all else (besides my wife and son) I ride motorcycles!

I know this might be a long shot but I have recently moved to Beijing for work! After settling down for the past 3 months. I'm ready to go riding again! Any one here able to introduce me to a group to join? would greatly appreciate and keen on making new friends.

I'm in a few local groups. Things are pretty quiet around here now, but the season is about to start. Send me a PM and I can get you connected...
