I'm pretty sure I'm going to pick up a new adventure helmet, just not sure which one yet. I'm going to make sure it's one that I can use goggles with and has a removable visor so if I do have a long hwy ride to a trail system I can take it off till I get to the trail. Lots of choices, just need to find what feels the best.

When it's blocking the sun from your eyes, its a visor. When the wind is trying to rip your helmet off, it's a beak...

Is that it?

It seems like the adv helmet is just like the adv bike - a compromise that is the worst of both worlds.

+1 for the Arai xd4. Stood up in the air stream at 60 and didn't even notice the peak lifting. Snell rated, goggles fit perfect.

You bet. The xd4 even comes with a bottle of antifog that fits in your pocket, which is definitely Japanese.

In all honesty I probably won't go with the Arai,I just bought one of those in December when I bought my z1000. Now I'm buying this Ktm and if I got another $600+ Arai my wife just might kill me. I don't even have 350 miles on my z and I'm buying another new bike. I really do like my street Arai though.

The worst of both worlds statements regarding the adventure bikes.
I traded a sport bike in for my 1290 SA in October. You must get out and ride one. The ability to go off road for long distance exploring when you want, and also haul ass on the pavement is fun as hell. Cruze control, heated seats and grips. It's also great two up for 300 mile day.

Adventure helmets?

Yeah, Iím in the same boat, I bought an Arai after my Klim and now Iím looking at another Arai for commuting. I need something with a drop down sun visor because I drive into the sun and also away from the sun in the same commute. Stopping to put on sunglasses is a pain. Iíve ordered the flip down tinted visor for my Arai to test it out. But I donít want to use my Corsair as a commuter helmet. Itís tough, this helmet decision making tasks. The problem is, my Arai fits absolutely perfectly, so Iím kinda stuck with them, cause everything else doesnít feel right.

If at all possible, get a shielded adventure helmet with a pinlock system.
You can wear goggles when you want.

I have an Arai XD4 and I'm lusting for a Klim Krios. The Arai is obviously very comfortable and has a high end feel but the shield takes 4 screws to change out and I really wish it was quick release. The Klim helmet is supposed to be much lighter too.

With regards to the visor/beak/peak: I find them to be functional the same way a ballcap is functional, it blocks sun, especially when the goggles/shield have a light layer of dust on them, when the sun is low on the horizon.

I've ridden in my XD4 and my Fox V3 dirt lid on adventure bike rides and actually prefer the V3 for dirt. It flows more air, fits goggles better, and the visor is higher up which gives better line of sight on steep descents. I also get really sweaty on technical roads/trails and don't want my commuter lid getting stinky.

I have an arai xd4. Love the peak (visor if you will) and the thing is ridiculously comfortable. I have yet to use it with goggles though. I wear glasses, and I have a Sena Bluetooth set in it, and it's just really nice all around.
I feel goofy wearing it on the street bikes though. And there is a tiny bit of aero lift from the peak.

I always assumed true Adv helmets were meant to be a little cheaper since they may be able to assume a slower speed when you wipe out in the dirt. If I am going to go down in the dirt (probably fairly regularly), then I'd rather not be wearing a $600+ helmet.

That said, I have yet to make it out on any real dirt/trails and I wear a Shoei Neotec.
