Dakar XR650R

Well, sort of. Just finished up mounting my new Kenaroo fairing on the "Dakar XR"! Used some triangular LED flush mount turn signals and some cheap Ebay LED 3" round headlights with a diode so they both go on with high beam. I used some old hand guard mounts and a cut up MTB bar for mounting my gauges. I am pretty happy with it. The Acerbis 6.3 gal tank is wide up front, but narrower than the Clarke 4.3 I had before at the back.

That looks rad! Way better than most rally fairings I've seen. Wheres the first adventure?

Thanks and not sure. I did take it out to Machias for a little dirt testing. It is weird not being able to see the front fender on single track!? I'll probably have it down at SUB tomorrow night.

Saw you in Everett yesterday afternoon. It catches the eye.

What does the fairing do for wind? Where is the blast and how tall are you?
I just got back from a ride to Alaska last month on an XR but was lacking in the windscreen dept (I had a simple short one I tied on in 5 minutes).

I really didn't care when I started (most of my bikes have had useless fairings anyways), but 1200 miles into the ride I started thinking maybe I should build a rally fairing like this kenaroo.

I'm 6'6" and mostly above the waist, so I am a pretty serious sail. It doesn't seem to do a lot, but takes a little blast off my chest. It is pretty vertical and quite a ways in front.

Pete:

May I ask what you paid for the dakar plastics?

Is Machias open again? Last I saw they had closed everything in order to put in drainage. It would be a great place to take my kid and get him used to his PW50.

I got a buddy deal because my neighbor used to be his neighbor, but you can contact him through ADVrider, search for Kenaroo. It isn't cheap, but includes a very nice frame mount bracket.

Yes, I was there a couple weeks ago, but there is some construction going on. I would be very wary of parking there, I know a couple people who have had their trucks broken into. I always ride in on my dual sport.

You could get a piece of clear acrylic from Tap plastics, cut it down a bit, and then mount for a see through windscreen to reach up higher.
That thing is already going to be a bit of a sail in crosswinds.
You don't want to go too high, but you could get another 8" or so, that just might be the difference.
If I raise the windshield all the way on my ST13 I can have a good conversation with a customer at 70 on the helmet bt.

This may be appreciably safer than the "real" one of the BMW flavor...have you seen the infamous "catastrophic fork failure" thread(s)?
